Tomato Sorting Machines

Optical Sorters for Tomatoes

Quadra's wide variety of tomato sorting machines are designed to process tomatoes in all forms including, whole, cherry, peeled, diced, and crushed tomatoes. Our tomato sorters are equipped with modern optical sensors and cutting-edge laser vision technology to detect any irregularities such as undersized, malformed, or oversized products, discolored tomatoes, rotten tomatoes, presence of mold, sunburns, and more. The optical sorters can easily identify and remove foreign bodies like vines, insects, stones, and wood.

Our machines are available in various sizes to suit your production needs, whether small, medium, or large.

Tomato Sorting Technology

High Resolution and NIR Cameras

Our sorting machines for whole tomatoes are equipped with high-speed, high resolution sensors that are strategically placed on either side of the products during their free fall. The cameras examine 100% of each product's surface and thus provides a comprehensive quality analysis of every tomato in the batch.

LED Lights for Sorting Tomato

Octa-Chromatic Imaging

Our optical sorters for crushed or diced tomatoes use pulsed LED technology and an octa-chromatic system that incorporates:

NIR Technology: to detect presence of rot and foreign bodies
Visible Color Analysis: to detect color defects such as yellowing
Translucency Analysis: to identify fragments of contaminants
Chlorophyll Analysis: to accurately detect foreign bodies in products with high chlorophyll content.

Defect Sorting Tomatoes

Sorting Analysis

The sorting machine analyzes all the tomatoes in the batch and disposes at extremely high speeds of up to 100 tons/hr the nonconforming products containing color defects like green or yellow spots, irregular shapes, marked produce, and foreign bodies like wood, vines, or plastic.

High-Speed Ejection

Tomato Optical Sorter

Finger Ejector System

The vision program examines all of the photos acquired for each tomato and send an order to the finger ejectors within milliseconds to accuate the sorting decision. As a result, the finger ejector launches a precise and incredibly fast shot at the defective tomatoes, eliminating them from the good products. This system can be set up in a 3-way mode as well to include a "second choice" category.

Diced Tomato Sorting

Vacuum Extractor System

The "liquid form" tomato sorters (like tomato paste or diced tomatoes) have a different ejection system than that of whole tomatoes. Such optical sorters include rapid vacuum extractors that remove using air suction the flawed and foreign products present in the conveyed tomatoes. Depending on the size of the products and the speed of the line, the number of nozzles equipped can be from 64 to 176 units and have a diameter as low as 8 mm and up to 25 mm. The sorter can feature a single ejector system or two simultaneous systems for fine and diced pulp selection.
