Potato Sorting Machines

Optical Sorters for Potatoes

Quadra's potato sorting machines are equipped with innovative vision technologies and high-resolution cameras to sort potatoes of all shapes, sizes, varieties, and cuts. From whole yellow and red potatoes, to peeled, unpeeled, or diced potatoes, to French fries and chips, our high-speed optical sorters are made to distinguish your perfect potatoes from the defective ones.

Our potato sorters provide you with guaranteed results in removing the discolored, rotten, and bruised products as well as foreign materials that may be present such as stones, wood, plastic, insects, and more.

      Whole Potato Sorters:

Potato Sorting Machine
Raynbow - Potato Sorting (Up To 25 T/h)
Potato Optical Sorter
Dryce - Potato Sorting (Up To 40 T/h)

Quadra's potato sorting machines provide exceptional results in handling whole potato varieties. Our systems visually inspect every single product from both sides to identify irregularities in their shape, size, color, and external surface. The sorters are available in standard speeds, sizes, and varieties depending on the nature of your products (cut, whole, frozen, etc.) and your processing needs (small, medium, or large). No matter which of our optical sorters you choose, your resulting potatoes will always have consistent quality and freshness as you intend them to.

      Diced Potato Sorters:

Diced Potato Sorting Machine
Spray - Diced Potato Sorting
Frozen Potato Sorter
Dryce - Diced Frozen Potato Sorting

In addition to sorting whole potatoes, our machines are ideal for inspecting cubed, diced, and sliced potatoes. Our sorters can identify even the smallest defects present on diced potatoes such as minor rots, blemishes, green spots, irregular cuts, and potato skins.

Potato Sorting Technology

Optical Sorting of Potatoes

High Resolution and NIR Cameras

The potato sorting machines are equipped with high-speed, high-resolution color and NIR cameras that are strategically placed on either side of the products during their free fall. This setup enables the optical sensors to capture several images instantaneously for each potato from all its sides. The images captured cover 100% of the surface of the products and provide an accurate analysis for the presence of quality defects.

Pulsed LED Light

Pulsed LED Technology

Our optical sorters are distinguished by a complex lighting configuration based on high-speed pulsed LED technology, which enables our vision systems to deliver remarkable imaging and sorting results. Under these settings, the potatoes are subjected to ten different light sources with varying frequencies in the visible and near-infrared spectrums.

Potato Sorting Analysis

Sorting Analysis

The images collected by the optical sensors under different lighting conditions are analyzed by the vision software using:

NIR Technology to detect rot and foreign substances.
Visible Color Analysis to identify color flaws such as green spots and yellowing.
Chlorophyll Analysis to find foreign substances in products with a high concentration of chlorophyll.
Translucency Analysis to recognize stones and contaminants in dehydrated fruits.
Shape Analysis to discover irregular shapes and small pieces.

High-Speed Precision

Finger Rejection System

Finger Rejection System

After the products are analyzed, finger ejection or pneumatic ejection systems are installed at the end of the potato sorting machines. The rejection unit can singulate foreign material and defective potatoes from the perfect products with extreme precision and speed while they are in free fall. The setup is available in a 2-way or 3-way mode to differentiate the "good potatoes", the unusable "defective products", and the "second choice".
